The Bum Dra trek is one of the most beautiful short duration trek in Bhutan with only one night camping in the wild. But the scenery and landscape may well be worth compared to all of the other treks in terms of the adventure and the experience that goes along as you hike up. Also called the ‘the trek of the thousand Dakinis’ (celestial female beings) you can even explore the numerous caves where the angels had convened. From the first day from your campsite, you will be able to visit the mystical caves where the thousand Dakinis had met. When you go lower down from your campsite you will come across numerous temples and a hill top nunnery. From here you can also get a spectacular view of the Taktsang Monastery which you will not see from the usual tourist route.”

Accommodation/your night Camps

Camping in extreme weather such as cold temperatures and snowy conditions can be extremely enjoyable; Camping by the snow can be peaceful, picturesque and out door adventure. 

All the accommodation while on Druk Path Trek is twin sharing, double occupancy (Single occupancy with supplement) in the Tents. The tents are Cold Weather Tents and designed for harsh weather and snowy conditions. A separate tents will be pitched for dinning and rest room. 

On demand, a luxury tents will also be provided like bed and mattresses, warm shower tents, rest room with proper toilet pots, fishing equipment etc..

During the Trek

  • Clothes:  Waterproof jacket and pants. You really don't need thick heavy clothes. As always, trekking in layers is better. 
  • Bag pack with rain cover for bagpack
  • Water bottles (at least 3 liters total capacity)
  • Baseball cap (the sun is strong at all elevations)
  • Hiking poles (lessen the impact on your joints)
  • Sunglasses (essential when you cross snow line)
  • Trekking shoes: A pair of lightweight-waterproof hiking boots is a must. Break them in beforehand
  • Winter hat
  • Winter gloves

At the Camp Site 

  • Head lamp with extra batteries
  • A pair of Camp shoes too.
  • Thermal underwear and can be useful in the mornings, or for sleeping in at night. If you forgot some, jogging pants are widely available in all towns for less cost
  • Reading materials (Kindle may be best)
  • Journal and pens

 Day 1 Trek from Sang Choekor Buddhist College to your Campsite below the Bumdra Monastery

Distance : 3-4 hours walk

Camp Altitude:

4,000 m

From your hotel drive to the Sang Choekor Buddhist College from where you start your hike as your horses carry your luggage. It is a beautiful hike with sweeping views of the Paro valley, the Himalayan ranges and meadows adorned with prayer flags till you reach the Campsite.  

Enroute is the Chhoe Tse Lhakhang (temple) nestled on the mountainside with a commanding view of the southern Paro and the snowcapped Himalayas.

Your campsite is located just below the Bumdra Monastery with an unobstructed view of the Himalayan range. After lunch, you may visit the Monastery and if you are upto it then walk higher up to an altitude of 4000 meters from where you will get an even better view of the valley and the Himalayan mountains.

Enjoy your stay at the campsite with a bonfire and dinner amongst the spectacular backdrop. 


Day 2

Hike from Campsite to Taktsang Temple via Zangto Pelri Monastery.

Today you will hike towards the magical Taktsang Monastery / Tiger’s Nest, one of the most important cultural icons of Bhutan. Watch the early morning sunrise and after a sumptuous breakfast descend down to the valley through the pine and rhododendron forests till you reach the Zangdopelri Lhakhang/temple. Zangdopelri is the mystical Glorious Copper Colored Mountain of Guru Rinpoche (the patron saint of Bhutan) also the ‘heaven on earth’ and you can actually enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Taktsang Monastery / Tiger’s Nest from above. 

A little hike down will bring you to the famous Taktsang Monastery and after visiting the many small temples and the caves you will hike down to the base from where your vehicle will pick you up and take you to your hotel for a good night’s rest.

What to expect while trekking:

  1. Treking Travel Difficulty: The average elevation in Bhutan is 3200m above Sea level and this tour is moderately challenging.
  2. Trekking Difficulty : At times, you will be camping above 4000 m. As this is a difficult high alittude trek, this may not be suitable for those prone to cardiac arrests, respiratory, or circulatory disorders, or for limited mobility. 
  3. Includes major sight seeings and all possible nature hikes
  4. The package includes stay in 3 star hotels in Bhutan as approved by Tourism Council of Bhutan. Our Best Choice is Bhutan Suites and Thimphu Tower in Thimphu, Bhutan Mandala Resort in Paro, Wangdue Ecolodge in Wangduephodrang and Hotel Dewachen in Phobjikha.
